I'm trying to figure out what's sucking up all my CPU cycles when I hit the play button in Reaper. Resting CPU load is 2%. When Reaper starts playing, the load soars to ~98% I have ReaTune on 3 tracks, ReaVerb on a few, Track EQ on some and a Xylophone vst track. My ASIO buffer on my Digi002 rack is set to 1024. Can I up that? Is ReaTune a CPU hog? Any ideas would be appreciated. (Using Reaper 4.) Rick

is everything at the same sample rate? or are you messing with the playrate slider at all? that can have a big impact on performance. btw, reatune and reaverb are both pretty hungry, and get worse if the tracks they're on are record armed.

The performance graph shows which track is consuming how much! What do you see there?

I think they're all at the same sample rate. Not sure what you mean by "playrate". Does anyone know if manual pitch correction on ReaTune take less CPU than automatic?

Could be a denormalization problem. Do as someone said above, take all FX off-line and then enable them one by one. If the CPU% jumps, that's the culprit,. Try putting something like GNorm in front of it. You could also try "Apply track FX as new take" to print the ReaTune correction, and then off-line them.

Fabian, that's a good idea. I've never done that "printing". If I understand correctly, it renders the track with the tuning, then I can disable the ReaTune so it doesn't suck CPU cycles? Does anyone know how Melodyne compares with ReaTune as far as CPU drain goes?
