Hi, I have an S60 D5 Geartronic which I bought as a used vehicle from a Volvo dealer. The car has developed a speed related gearbox noise. Initially I thought it could be tyre and road noise related but does not change from one surface type to another it just gets louder on the quieter surfaces. The noise is more whine like and comes into its own at about 70-80mph. If you slow up or speed up the then the sound changes accordingly. I have also noted that sometimes when I accelerate after a rolling speed there appears to be a slight bit of slack/play resulting in a slight knock. Has any one experienced a similar problem?. Get it back to the dealer, assuming it's still in warranty. Dave

You dont mention what year your car is....? Mines a late 2005 plate, same spec, D5, geartronic. I cannot say I've ever heard any whining sounds. I know very faintly there is a pleasent whine when cruising at a high speed but all my cars have had that (all the auto/geartronic ones from volvo anyway) which I assume might be the turbo... As for slight knock, I have that if i let the car roll and then accellerate. I would take it back to dealership though as suggested, just to make sure

The noise I get at is not disimilar to the sound when passing an lorries on the motorway. Engine noise I can cope with but this is just constant and audible. Gibby26
