Hey guys. I looked through a few of these similar topics and none of them helped me or were over my head. I'm EXTREMELY new to all things audio. Here's the jist of it. I am looking to start my own podcast very soon and I would like to use skype to do it. I want to be able to record my own voice as well as record everyone else, just as you would hear it through the headset. From what I got I would need two separate audio tracks but I don't know how to set them up. I tried for about 4 hours last night changing settings and what not. I attempted to get my brother's help but he was telling me that unless I can set up specific in/outputs for specific tracks I can't do it (but while talking with other podcasters I have found that they do in fact use Reaper to do what I want to do). So the short version: I want to record my own voice as well as anyone talking in skype... without having it just come through my speakers and my mic picking it up. Here's my set up, I am using the ASUS on board audio (no audio card) and a USB Logitech headset. (let me know if you need any other info) Thank in an advance for the help, it will all be greatly appreciated... also feel free to talk to me as if I'm a child, that's about the level I'm on when it comes to this stuff :)

I think it's going to be tricky. You will be using the logitech headset as your soundcard in this instance, and this will be set up as the audio mic and "speakers" in Skype. In reaper, you would need to select the logitech headset as your card, and select the microphone as the input to the track you are recording. Now, on an audio interface, you could take the outputs and feed them into inputs and record them, too.. but you can't do that in this instance. Also, you have the problem that Reaper will want control over the headset and so will Skype. This might be simple if you had an audio interface with a microphone and separate headphones, but I can't see a way of doing it with Reaper using the logitech headset. HOWEVER, take a look at "Pamela" (a Skype addon, or "extra" as they call it), which is designed to record Skype calls. It will even save the calls as MP3s if you like (to save space). You could always load the recordings into Reaper later to clean them up or edit them if you wanted to.

Thanks for the help, I'll just mess with stuff for a bit. And yeah, it will be recorded and put on itunes BUT while recording, it will be live. So I'll have myself and my co-host along with guests and such. Skype seemed the cheapest easiest way to do that, where people can call in and such.
