On a Beta 001/LE system, the answer to your questions is 1 & 2: yes the default rate is 48K. You also have a 44.1 option, and can switch the hardware to play back any session at either rate - although I am unsure why one would want to play back a 44.1 session @ 48. re: question 3 track performance on the 2 sampling rates. I haven't had the chance to compare. The only 44.1 stuff I've done is conversions after bounce to disc mixes for CD burning. A 400 G4 Yikes with 250 MB ram and the supplied MAC drive handles 24 tracks @ 48 K no problem, with processing as discussed in previous posts. I plan on adding a second ATA or firewire drive soon and dedicate it to audio recording. Hope this helps.

Just to make sure I understand you correctly... So, you've been working at 48K on Digi 001 with no problem? That would be good news. (We all know what the system does at 44.1 -- I'm trying to figure out if everything is the same at 48.) Thanks again.

Here's the official word. The 001 supports (records and playsback) either 44.1 or 48k, your choice. The fact that you can't use 48k in powermix mode is NOT a limitation of the Pro Tools software, it's a limitation of the mac audio hardware. The mac can only work in 44.1k. Is this also true using the Audiomedia card with ProTools LE? Hope so...

Yes, the Audiomedia III card with Pro Tools LE will allow you to record and playback in either 44.1k or 48k sample rates. Jon
