auto rename splited items

Hello, Is there a way to have Reaper automatically rename the regions created by splitting a soundfile media ? The Media Items in Project Bay show the same name for every part of the original soundfile media from which the new regions were made and it's quite difficult to find the sounds by name afterwards since they all have the same name... Coming from Protools,I'm looking for xxx_001, xxx_002, xxx_0003 or something similar when I split chunks of a sound.. Thanks for your help Poldo

Everything is possible. glue each split to itself and then you can rename each one individually since they will be different files.

yes ok.. but your suggestion is all to be done by hand ! I would need an automatic system for that. Imagine if I do hundreds of cuts.. Best Poldo

of course. it is very easy to automate it. It's REAPER !

MediaBay only display active take name, you don't have to create/glue files, just to automate the way they active takes are named after a split (cause in REAPER by default, both takes still keep the original name).

Hmm I see how this feature is done, thanks to this video, It is a bit weird IMHO that when item-02 is split, it became item-03 + item-04. So two splits on a item and you get item-01, item-03, item-04. But what if item-03 is split again ? Maybe can you make a screencapture ? ProTools was long time ago for me ^^ That said, a script will not be able to take care of all possible splitting scenarios (like splitting from another action). The script have to contains the split itself, it will not be a "detect if an item has been split and rename", it will be a "split item then rename". Few scenario can be handle like splitting at cursor or splitting at mouse cursor though. I personally have custom dev plan for professionals (link in my signature) if you want quick solutions. It's a way to support all my other free resources shared here and other contributors :)

Solved ! I made several scripts, I started by making split-rename scripts ProTools style, but this wasn't flexible cause it was not compatible with the other split actions. So I took another path, and OP request for naming changed a bit (not ProTools style needed in fact), and design two script which analyses items (all or only in selection) to add suffix accordingly. This is what we end up with: This last scripts has the big advantages to work with any kind of split/duplicate actions It is also a good way to not have two items named the same in a project.
