I don't see how to engage record from the MIDI editor. As with 3, I'm expecting to toggle record on/off in the ME with the same command I do in arrange view. But that's not happening and I haven't found any options under the menus or in the actions list for this.

I'm not sure why you have it working in v3 and not in v4, but generally I think the problem you run into here is the focus issue. Meaning that when you have the Midi editor focused, actions from the main section can't be triggered anymore because the Midi editor uses its on action section. There's this "pass through key to main window" solution though described here. have you tried this ? sorry if I misunderstood and be totally on the wrong path
Marah Mag, you're welcome. As for global key assignments, there's a FR request here along with some (imo) good arguments why the current system also has it's benefits. Personally I agree though, having an option to assign key comands globally would be nice. As for engaging record from the Midi editor, yes I also think the transports should be global. But if anyone's interested, I also wanted to engage record from the Midi editor but rather have a toolbar button than using a shortcut, this can be done with this simple python script which can then be assigned to a toolbar button in the Midi editor. Works nicely for me. Code:
Voted. Anyone who agrees that intuitiveness and ease of use should be a priority when dealing with basic features of a DAW, please vote at the above link. Global by default is the only logical way to do it. Tweakheads are smart enough to customize it to their liking. Most of us, on the other hand, just want to get to work so global transport controls by default simply makes sense.
