I don't remember if I've posted about this already or not, so here goes... A few days ago, I put an Athlon 64 x2 4200+ in my PTLE machine. I replaced an Athlon 64 3700+ (single core) which had given me about 2 1/2 years of solid use with PTLE. Ever since I put the dual core cpu in, my CPU meter in the System Usage meter window goes CRAZY, behaving erratically, spiking into the red and giving me hardware errors when I instantiate UAD-1 plugins in the session. This happens when the RTAS Processor is set to '2' in the hardware playback menu (buffer is at 1024). If I change the RTAS Processor to '1', the CPU Spiking into the red calms down a lot, but that kind of defeats the Dual Core processing capability I have now. IS there anyone that can help me confirm this problem or share your solution (other than not using the UAD-1 plugins....)? It seems like there might be a good number of us PTLE users that have a dual core machine and a UAD-1. Maybe not, though..... I have e-mailed UA about this, but haven't heard anything from them in reply. THere is another user at the UAD forum who has the same issue, but he/she doesn't know what to do either. I am using an Asus A8V Deluxe 2 Gigs Ram (DDR 333) Win XP PRo (SP2) Latest Pace Drivers Geforce 5200 AGP 128MB Video card System drive IDE @7200 rpm BFD (1.4.5 Q) drive IDE @7200 rpm Audio/Session drive SATA 133 THanks, GregJ

Check this link out. If your motherboard uses the nvidia chipset , this could be the cause of the spiking. ------------------------------------------------------------- Pro Tools LE 7.3.1, Digi002R, Command8, MPTK WinXP Pro SP2, ADS Pyro FW, Asus A8N-E AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+,1GB Corsair DDR 400 ram -------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah, I saw that.... one of the 'solutions' is: Use Asus A8V series as a possible alternative (Via K8T800/K8T890 chipset) This is the MOBO that I have. I don't have any PCIe slots on the board, and I can't buy a Magma Chassis, either. Anyone got this running successfuly? I know awhile ago MANY people were using the A8V deluxe board around here. Thanks, GregJ

Hi I've got pretty much the same setup and it works fine, I use it with PT Mpowered at the moment, but have had it running on PTLE. Have you checked if there's any settings in BIOS about dual core proceesors? I think there's also something about turning raid of in the bios, might be worth a try?

do u guys use the UAD reverb plug-in? if yes obviously u insert it on an auxilliary track right? so since it has latency, do u nudge evry single track that u send to that reverb unit?

I was trying more troubleshooting last night...... I get the erratic cpu meter activity even with 1 audio track with 1 uad plug on it (1176se, for example). Like many have probably felt before, I am really frustrated and confused. Everything worked well before I reformatted my system drive, installed my new CPU, and reinstalled all programs. I don't know what could be different this time. If anything, I have LESS junk on my computer now than I did before the reinstallation. I downloaded Sandra, but I don't know which report to run for the DUC here. I will publish my sandra results if someone would point out the correct report for me to run. Please stay with me on this people! I need you like I never have before. Thanks again! GregJ PS raid is disabled in BIOS, as is onboard Firewire.

UAD-1 + PTLE 7.1 = Explosion Explosion of uncompensated delay. All over the place.

Um.... I know about the delay with the UAD-1 and PTLE. My issue is with the program not being able to run consistently (buffer under and overruns, cpu erratically spiking from 0 - 100%} with UA plugs inserted into the session. I am having a problem with my DAW that I have never had before. The only hardware that is different from the last time it ran successfully is the CPU. It was an AMD 64 3700+. Now it is an AMD 64 x2 4200+. The software I am running now is exactly the same software that I was running before the CPU upgrade. (I did install the MS Hotfix for dual core CPU and the AMD Dual core optimizer.) I am now interested in finding out which Sandra Report I should run to post here on the DUC. There are many choices in this app, and I have never used it before.... Thanks for the help! GregJ
