Hi Folks, Just wondering if anyone canhhelp me with this problem. My Virtual Midi Keyboard has dissappeared, it was fine last time i used it but now when i click on it nothing happens and by that i mean nothing at all appears on screen no keyboard to play (and no sound when i tap the pc keyboard...just in case it was there but unseen by some anomoly). Been googling away and can't find any reference to this happening to anyone else with reaper. Anyone got a notion about what could be going on here ad how to sort it out?? I'd really appreciate your help here. I'm going bonkers. Thanks C.
So when you do View >> Show Virtual MIDi Keyboard the keyboard is not displayed? Have a look in the reaper.ini file, perhaps the keyboard display co-ordinates are weird (moved off-screen). Here I have: Code:
And ... hello caesura and welcome to these forums. You'll find many helpful people here and a lot of useful information. Make sure that you purchase Nicholas' excellent User Guide and ReaMix docs too. Worth their weight in gold. User Guide:.. ReaMix:....... Purchase:.... Distribution:. Nicholas has also written "Home Recording for Beginners", available at all good book shops: If you can, get hold of a copy of the Computer Music Beginner's Guide Special #32 - it's full of tutorials for beginners, using Reaper. This site will ship it internationally:

Hi DarkStar, Thanks for the welcome, i'll certainly check out some of those links you mentioned (is Nicholas' user guide different to the one that came with reaper?) Anyway this is what my reaper.ini file says, don't know much about these things but i notice yours says wnd_vis=1 and mine has wnd_vis=0 (i've pasted it below)if that is the problem do you have any thoughts on how i could fix it??? Thanks C. [vkb] wnd_vis=0 wnd_left=-62 wnd_top=752 wnd_width=1003 wnd_height=186 notecenter=57
Make a backup copy your reaper.ini file first. Edit it to have the values I have in mine and see what happens. If no good, go back to your backup copy. The Links take you to Nicholas's guides. I didn't know that any guide came with Reaper though.
This is pure guesswork. If your sound device has borked, maybe the VMK is suppressed too. Check the audio devices. Also add a VSTi to a track, open a MIDI Clip and see if clicking the piano roll keyboard there causes any sound. Or turn on the metronome (right-click and Enable duirng playback) and click Play
Gotta be honest i don't know how to open a midi clip never even knew there was a piano roll keyboard there (added vsti but didn't see any option for opening a midi clip or piano roll) still a bit wet behind the ears unfortunately. Sayying that Audio devices seem to be fine and click and metronome playing as normal and perfectly audible etc. Wonder if i'm gonna have to uninstall Reaper and reinstall...Do you know if that would affect my saved session files?
Whoops!!! Eh good news and bad news. Good news is i have my VMK back and up in working order. So thanks a million for that!!! Bad news is i didn't think to save files onto usb or something before reconfiguring so thery're now all gone... It's not the end of the world as all but one were just rough cuts which i can throw down again (which i was going to be doing from scratch anyway)but do you know if there's anyway to retrieve them as i was gonna use them for reference durinig proper recording. Either way i'm glad to have the virtual midi keyboard back so thanks again for the tips ;-)
