A digidesign tech man told me that he's pretty sure 875 would work fine, but that he wasn't able to give it the digidesign seal of approval...he advised me to go with the 845 and it's working beautifully...

I emailed tech support earlier in June about this, here's the reply I got: "Hello, We have not fully tested or qualified the Intel 875 chipsets with Digi hardware. We are seeing an issue with the 865 chipset not allowing Pro Tools to launch and that is being looked into. RAID configurations are not supported and may not consistently perform with Pro Tools. I would not jump to the 875 chipset until it's qualified." I would like to build a new system with the Intel D875PBZ motherboard as it has GigaBit LAN on the Northbridge chipset, but I won't be building it for a while, so hopefully the 875 chipset will be qualified by then. And maybe by then hyperthreading and/or dual processors and SATA RAID will also be qualified - or even the new 64 bit CPU's that AMD and Intel will be bringing out soon. Can you tell I'm suffering a little GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome)? Cheers,

With the announced release of 6.1, the compatibility docs for the 002 and 002r have been updated and now include the Intel 875 chipset as "recommended" and, therefore, supported. There was no "official" change for the M-box or 001 compatibility, but I can add that the Intel 875 chipset works very nicely with the 001! You won't be disappointed if you get one.

I have just set up the Intel 865 w/800Mhz bus speed, hyper threading & 2 channel mem using(1)gig 333Mhz DDR ram on 2 channels + 2.8 GHz P4/c <-(c) is w/hyper threading, and 800 Mhz bus speed. Incredibly fast................ but does not like PT-le in the least bit. I was able to work around the issues with PT-tech support. 1. Disabled smart power management completely. (I have to manually turn off system like win95 was (it is safe to turn off your computer - then just push the off button manually) 2. Disabled hyperthreading completly. PT will not work with it (maybe 6.1 will???) 3. modified swap file (maybe related to the high mem, or the two channel aspect??? I look at it like this. I have the 865 with some features temporarily turned off. I basically downgraded this set up. When PT can utilize the hyperthreading, I can turn these features on without a future upgrade. Finally I am ahead of software technology and am upgrade safe for a few months. It was frustrating though to have PT's install fully fail repeatly until these bugs were worked around. Perhaps, if you want a clean setup, stick with 845 unless you are prepared for some workarounds. I'm not sure if 875 is sim to 865 in these respects, but if it is you will have some discovory issues at installation.
