Hi everyone, My 740 estate has developed a rather annoying Creak/ groan type noise from the front end. Had been ok until the recent rains where i had a day of driving around the country lanes of kent through large puddles and flooded roads. since then somethings making a creaky type of noise in the front suspension, partucularly more now weve had acouple of warm sunny days.. Its like a dry rubber on metal type of groan on the sus travel ( sorry about the vague discription, its very difficult to put in words) Anyhoo, question is, is it just a case of crawling underneath with a can of wd40 and spraying everything that moves or are there specific areas that need lubing up at times. Thanks in advance for the help. Phil

The front end has a strut/rod on each side that has a bushing on each end. If they are worn out it will make the noise you described. I replaced the bushing on my 1992 740 wagon easily and the noise went away.

My creaky front end (760GLE) turned out to be lack of grease on the inner track rod ball joint on the end of the steering rack. I fitted a replacement rack in the not too distant past that came with the track rods fitted & concealed by the rubber boots. The moral is to check everything before fitting! A handful of grease seems to have fixed it.

Is it just a creak, or is it accompanied by a clunk and/or rattle? If you've got the latter, it's definitely something worn, probably bushings, and no amount of grease will solve it.
