O.K I have been enjoying hobby recording for quite a few years. Do simple audio tracks. I have learned a lot and have fun and like some of my results. However there are some things you just avoid and keep making music. So here is one I should be ashamed to admit ... I don't have a clue! Can anyone explain to me ... what the heck is "dither"????????? Keep it simple .. .like the "idiots guides" and should I do it?????

HAAAA HAAAAA....WHAT IS DITHER...GOOOOD GAAAAWD......somebody explain to us......I mean....somebody explain to this guy what dither is.....boy....I can't believe we....I mean.......I can't believe he do doesn't know...HAAAA....SNORT!!!! Well....I guess I do know what it is....I just haven't figured out why I would want to bother using it if I understand it right. Ya see....commercial CD's are in 16 bit and known as Red Book. But we have the capability of recording in 24 bit, which I guess is suppose to be superior in sound. After were done recording in 24 bit, nothing would be able to play our recording since no current audio devices playback at 24 bit. Sooooo, I guess you have to dither to bring it back down to 16 bit so that it can be played on any normal player. The other advantage in recording in 24 bit is that someday the playback devices will play at 24 bit, and then you won't have to dither, you are all set to go. Right or wrong? Another thing I'd like to know is.....WHO THE FARK NAMED IT DITHER????? Music is filled with pretty words like "ambience"..."sparkle", "sheen" "dynamic"...and such.....how the hell did the word "dither" get in there. It actually sounds like something you should do to a song you don't like....you should dither on it...and make sure no one is watching.......dither.....that's just a freakin' ugly word.

soooo...are you saying Lawrence.....that you can record in 24 bit....and that's that....just leave it a 24 bit and it will playback in a normal mp3 player or CD player.....WTF??????? Also.....do you really gain much by recording in 24 bit. I'm scared to even try, since my CPusage gets pretty used up just in 16 bit....and...I don't think my recordings sound all that bad.....(maybe I'm wrong though)

LOL... You guys crack me up... BTW... for all you dither-heads out there, Schwa's Psycho Dither is the best dither you never heard. Specially for the price... :D Everything I do intended for CD has Psycho Dither in the last insert on the Master. (I don't use the internal dither because I'm not sure yet if it doesn't sound as good as Schwa's doesn't! :D ) D

Lol :) Imagine if just like mastering to two track tape as an effect people starting rendering to 8 bit or 12bit then back to 16bit in the final stage of mastering because "you just can't beat the sound of heavy truncation!" ;)
