Thanks guys. The thing is that it's only one Kontakt patch loaded, but I am hitting it with two midi tracks, triggering different sounds (it's NI 70's drums so one part is kick/snare, one is cymbals). While it's all the same instrument, I wanted to keep the two parts separate for sending off to be mixed. I just ended up dragging the midi for each track onto the instrument track and doing a steam render. This is one of the only places where I think Sonar might have Reaper beat, rendering. In Sonar it was really easy to specify which midi tracks would be rendered, you just selected them (in Reaper you also have to mute all other midi tracks that are pointed at that instrument). You could also (and this is HUGE for me) specify a time range to be bounced (Sonar's word for render). Also, it was much faster on certain instruments. Of course, I would gladly trade all that for the stability and all the other ways Reaper is far superior, I guess I'm just waiting for the morning I wake up and see "Render:" in front of some changes in the latest alpha. Then again, as with many things I have come across while learning Reaper and been confused by, this may just be another instance where Reaper's system is actually superior, but I'm just so used to Sonar that I don't recognize it.
