I have an instance of Kontakt on it's own track with three other tracks of midi triggering it. What is the best way to render each of these three midi tracks individually? If I try to do them all at once I just get four wavs: three are blank files from the midi tracks and one is a wav containing the result of all three of those midi tracks triggering Kontakt. I wouldn't mind going through and doing each track individually, but the rendering is excruciatingly slow (around 2.0x), so I'd like to be able to set it all up and just walk away. Thanks

If you set up kontakt with 3 instruments, on 3 midi channels, with 3 audio outputs then you can do a single render.

Hiya You will need to load Kontakt in each FX midi track, you can then goto TRACK - Render tracks to stems. and your done

Thanks guys. The thing is that it's only one Kontakt patch loaded, but I am hitting it with two midi tracks, triggering different sounds (it's NI 70's drums so one part is kick/snare, one is cymbals). While it's all the same instrument, I wanted to keep the two parts separate for sending off to be mixed. I just ended up dragging the midi for each track onto the instrument track and doing a steam render. This is one of the only places where I think Sonar might have Reaper beat, rendering. In Sonar it was really easy to specify which midi tracks would be rendered, you just selected them (in Reaper you also have to mute all other midi tracks that are pointed at that instrument). You could also (and this is HUGE for me) specify a time range to be bounced (Sonar's word for render). Also, it was much faster on certain instruments. Of course, I would gladly trade all that for the stability and all the other ways Reaper is far superior, I guess I'm just waiting for the morning I wake up and see "Render:" in front of some changes in the latest alpha. Then again, as with many things I have come across while learning Reaper and been confused by, this may just be another instance where Reaper's system is actually superior, but I'm just so used to Sonar that I don't recognize it.

tod- thanks for all the feedback. As for instruments, I've just changed the way I create them and it's cleared things up for me. I have a folder with all fx on it, then nested below that a folder with the VSTi/instrument on it, then any midi tracks are below the instrument (but not nested in it, they are only nested in the fx folder which is used here as a container so I can render instrument output independently of fx). thanks again. oh and great tip on the "unsolo all" icon, that will come in handy, used that a lot in sonar. Also gave me the idea to create an "unarm all tracks" button which is something I was missing from Sonar as well. I always forget that in reaper, if it's not there by default, chances are it can be with a little tweak.
