I don't know how many 9500/G3 upgraded Macs are currently running PTLE/001 flawlessly. There may be a lot - or few. Others will post, I'm sure. My G4/400 Sawtooth w/2nd ATA/66 drive runs PTLE solid as a rock. No crashes in 2-3 weeks now (at least none from PTLE) - even using a USB midi controller via OMS. I had also considered getting a Newer Tech upgrade to my Power Computing 604/150Mhz, but decided just to bite the bullet and get something that would likely have been tested by Digi, and most likely be supported with new patches or fixes. I recommend the 2nd ATA drive. It'll be less than $250 and well worth it. It's not mandatory, but highly recommended and will probably save you some grey hair down the line. ------------------ LW [This message has been edited by lwilliam (edited January 20, 2000).]

Rgriff, In response to your question about whether or not you need a second hard drive to run with 001. I've got a G4-450 (sawtooth) 256mb RAM with the standard internal 20gb ide Hard drive. I've been working on Digi001 constantly for about 4 weeks now with not one single crash (touch wood). So to answer your question, I don't think you really need a second hard drive unless you need the extra space. I'm not 100% sure if this is true, but someone told me that you shouldn't have more than about 2gb per audio drive. Like I said, I don't know how true this is, but I've partitioned my 20gb drive 6 ways. 10gb for the system hard drive, and 5 additional drives of 2gb each for audio. Also, never store your audio on the system partition (the one with your pro-tools application on it). Make sure you defrag your audio partitions regularly. Like I said, I've had no problems so far by working like this. Hope this helps. Regards, Matt Bauer.

I am running a 9500/200 with a Newertech 300/150 card installed ( recommended by others on this and Motu boards, thanks guys). It seems to be running fine, no crashes (yet) and audio and midi working great !. I've got to say that the install was the easiest install I've ever done !!!!!!! I paid $150.00 for this card and will get a faster card sometime soon ! Also, it says somewhere to run OS 8.6 with 001 on a 9500 but I'm running OS 9.0 and its working. I'm running 2 external hard drive, 1 old Micropolis (7200 rpm) and a seagate Barracuda ( narrow - 7200 rpm) I am also still using my AMIII card which is supposedly a no no. but it works and I can still use Sound Designer, Peak and hear my CD Burner which I see there is quite a dew posts of people having problems. hope this helps see ya frank

quote:
Originally posted by bluesna: Rufus, re; the AMIII card.I ran the AMIII card with Protools software for the last year or so on my 9500/200. When I purchased the 001, ( I'd already install a G3 300/150 upgrade card in my 9500. Lets see if I remember correctly !!!!!!! When I installed the 001, installed great, some of my old audio features that I used my AMIII card for no longer worked and crashed some programs. I called tech support and I believe they told me some programs can not run on the new 5.0 DAE. I was told that I;m not supposed to run the 001 & AMIII card together. Anyway, thats what I meant by a no no !. I've got both of them working anyway but am unsure of the outcome . See Ya frank

Has anyone tried the Powerforce G4 cards or XLR8? Got a lead on these, cheaper than Newer Tech. PS I've been using a Newer G3 upgrade in a 7100 with no problems, but I'm just looking to save a buck.
