Ram specs for G4

I just got a new G4/400 to use with my 001 and need to add more Ram. Are there any specs other than being a PC100? Are they the same PC100's as used in pc's? Sorry to post this here, but I can't seem to get an answer from Apple. Also, can someone recommend an inexpensive place to purchase? I blew all my cash and I need to get this going. Some ignorant hearsay for ya: A memory clerk at Fry's Electronics told me that although many types of PC100 RAM should work with the G4, he's had returns for all types except the highest quality (and price). Sorry, I can't remember the exact spec. He also said that all RAM in the system will sync to the chip with the lowest performance. Based on that, I ordered 256 RAM from Apple with my G4 order. Pay more, worry less: That's the general Apple philosophy, right?

i too found out the hard way. i bought a 128 meg stick from fry's. the guy crossref'd the part numbers and said it would work. it didn't. it was $229.00 plus tax. i looked on pricewatch.com and found mowhawk memory. i got a seimens (very good brand) that was made for g4 shipped overnight for $191.00. popped it in and my system came up. my 2cents worth

I've got a G4 400 Yikes (PCI graphics) and I bought ordinary PC ram at Best Buy and everything worked out fine. I got a 64MB PC100 8ns stick for $99 after rebate. Maybe it's because of Yikes or maybe I got lucky... Jeff D.

The least expensive/highest quality pc100 ram for the G4 can be bought online at chipmerchant.com They are excellent to deal with and truly the cheapest out there.

Can I use my 001 card with my 888i/o24interface?

I also checked the prices and bought my ram for my G3 from chipmerchant.com I found the spec in my computer upgrade manuel and chipmerchant also new what I needed. ray
