Folks: I got a firewire cdr and, in order to get a song backed-up to cdr, I had to delete a bunch of unwanted audio files. I kept only the ones I wanted and the session plays just fine. The problem is that, when I first open the session, PTLE starts looking for the deleted files. I have to manually tell PTLE that it's ok to open the session without the files. How can I get around that?

In 5.01, once you re-saved the session without the unneeded files, it never asked for them again. In 5.1 it *always* asks for them no matter what you do. I once asked Digi about this and they admitted a change, but I was lost after the first few words about software programing. I just hit "skip all" everytime I launch a session I've removed files from. [ June 21, 2001: Message edited by: bassmac ]

It sounds like you're deleting the files using the finder or explorer (depending on your platform). You should be deleting the files from within PT using the audio files region bin and everything should work fine. Or maybe I misunderstood your problem. JE

It's best to back-up a song long before it reaches 700mb total anyways. I back-up the drums as soon as they're recorded, same for the other rhythm parts, then the remaining foreground parts rarely take up more than a CD. You can't run a PT session off a cd anyways, so it doesn't matter if they get separated. As long as you're consistent with how you separate the sessions and label them well you'll have nothing to worry about. And cheap CD-r media is fine since the audio is in data format. Best not to toss out anything until it's all backed up and the masters are shipped.
