Hello. House got robbed some time ago so haven't had much of a chance to browse the REAPER forums. Man, they took all my crap, my computer, equipment, they took everything except for my bed and clothes :( I have been going through a great deal of stress the past few weeks as I was getting ready to record an album. I am completely broke and really need to record this album. I was thinking, that maybe I could purchase a portable tape recorder and record the vocals straight to the tape? I don't need to monitor myself ( used to it) so, I was thinking of purchasing an inexpensive tape recorder with a Mic input, using my shure sm58 and an audio buddy mic pre that was stored in remote storage...record the vocals to the unit, and bring the tapes into daw , and edit them as need be, aligning the scattered vocals on tape with the instrumental. I'll just use my cell phone to play back the beat, listening to it as I record. this all sounds cumbersome i know and a little counterproductive with todays tech, but I only have 40 sum'n bucks to invest and a tape recorder with mic in came to mind.. so in theory, this should work right?

That should work.... but dude, my heart goes out to you. I had a similar thing happen years ago, and it is devastating. Hang in there, maybe some good Samaritan on the forum that lives out by you can help....? I am in Minnesota.... I will be sending all of the positivity (Praying, meditating, whatever)I can to you!!

thanks for the responses! I will look into the Zoom recorder for future reference but as of now, I need a quick and inexpensive fix. Can anyone suggest a decent handheld tape recorder under 50 bucks? And thanks for the condolences, i'll be staying with my brother for the next couple of weeks until I get myself together

yea, theives :( I am at a library and I have no access to a computer for recording purposes. I have up to 40 dollars to spend on a nice tape recorder.. the portability is will be nice to. nice little experiment for me to see how well I can manage with a shure, audio buddy and tape recorder :)

Sorry to hear of your loss brother.. :-( i had gear stolen years ago too... my heart feels what yours does.. the Bastards!.. As for recording gear i would seriously look at a Zoom H4 portable recorder, you can pick em up cheap on The Bay of E nowadays... built in FX multitracking and very very good stereo condenser mics. Am sure you could pick one up around $40.. i have one and it is awesome... you tube it for a quick tour. Good luck dude with your reinstatement of your gear... and remember they cant steal your music & ideas!... keep the faith dude.
