Pioneer A06/106

Hello, I'm planing on buying a DVD burner (this week!), and I'm looking for advice. I've read another guy's post and he decided to buy a pioneer 106, however I'd like to know if anyone has had any BAD experiences with it, like not being able to burn at 4x with 4x-certified media brand "X", etc A friend of mine has a different, 2x burner, and has never been able to burn at 2x... even with 4x media. I think I read somewhere that this is supposed to happen? I don't want a 4x burner and have to burn at 1x... Ok well, where I live I'm only able to buy 4X media manufactured by LG(at descent prices, any other media like verbatim or maxell with jewel case are like $6-7 bucks each!) Has anyone burned with them? I'm almost certain I'll get the pioneer 106, but there's a sony dru-500a for the same price, so I'll decide based on which one has less problems... recommendations? thank you :D
