#1 Re-initializing (NOT low level formatting) does NOT wipe out authorizations (floppy or challenge/response). However, the first time you boot PT on the freshy initialized drive, it may ask you to re-enter the responses, etc or re-insert the floppies for verification. #2 Challenge/responses are machine-specific. Yes, the challenge/response is stored on the drive, but the original challenge is specific (and 'locked') to that machine. Chris Hanson Digidesign

Thanks for the info, Chris. Was I in my rights to move my hard drive from one machine to another to work and back again or does this breach my license agreement with Waves/Sony etc? If I wanted to work in another studio is there a way I can do this (apart from the other studio buying in plugs that I have already). I don't particularly want to cart my mac around.

Anyone tell me if I Re-initialise my hard drive and change partitions around if my Waves/Sony plugs will need to be re-authorised? (Pace Challenge/Response code authorisation). TIA. Another strange thing - I always thought plug-ins copy-protection authorised your hard drive and not your Mac. I took my hard drive out of my system to take over to work on a session at a friends house. He didn't own the Sony EQ and Inflator nor all of the Waves plugs. When I plugged my Hard drive in his mac I only get demo authorisation for 15 days - I would have thought I would have had full use of the plugs if I just took the Hard Drive - does this mean that if i want to continue working over at my friends studio (or anywhere else after 15 days) I have to physically take the whole mac over - what a pain!! At least ilok solves that one, I guess.
