I'm new to DAW. I was going to buy a Roland VS880EX, when one of my friends talked me into looking at theDigi001. I'm just about convinced to buy one, but I've got some questions: I have a Blue&White G3 450 w/LVM SCSI and 2 9 gig SCSI drives, 384 meg RAM. Will this be enough for me to do up to 12 tracks overdubbing and using realtime effects without latency? Will I be able to use the Digi001 without an external mixer? I intend to record keyboards, drum machines, guitars and maybe a mic (not simultaneously of course) and I need to be able to record a track or two at a time. Can I use just the software mixer in ProTools 5 LE? Should I even think about buying the Digi001 or should I stick with the stand alone consoles like the Korg D16 or Roland VS? Thanks, Jim

Hi Jim, I was in a similar situation in December. I had a system that worked well and I liked it, but I wanted something that was more computer based. I liked the VS stuff but I had all of the submenus and button pushing. Some folks love that but not me. So, I took a chance and went with the Digi setup. I haven't looked back since. I love it! Your setup sounds great and I can't see you having any problems. I have a bw G-3 300 w/256 meg/Ram and an an extra Seagate IDE barracuda inside Everything is working flawlessly in my setup. There are other factors that could cause you problems but have a look around here and see what works/doesn't work and that should help you out a lot! Good Luck! Paul G.

If you set your buffer setting to (I think 128) the amount of latency you'll get is negligible. It sounds like you're going to be doing the same kind of recording that I do, and at first when I got the digi001 for the first few days I was kinda freakin' over the latency issue. I mean it was REALLY delayed. But that's because for some reason it ships with a really high buffer setting. Once you change it (very easy to do) the latency goes away. My system is a G4 350 and latency is not even a thought, much less an issue.

My system is also a G4 350 and like he said, "latency is not even a thought, much less an issue".
