Does anyone know EXACTLY the minimum services I'd need running for a SUPER light DAW boot drive? Well, I should say, EXACTLY what services are need to run reaper and all my VST's with my HW. Obviously any drivers to control the SATA HD's, Sound Cards etc . . . are obvious keepers. But this would be great to have a list of Minimal services needed to run a DAW. I just got my hands on some serious tweak tools that let me disable EVERY service if I'd like to, of course I wouldn't be using windows or even be able to boot into the machine at that point.

Larry, You shouldn't need a separate utility just to 'disable' services (just an FYI). Here's the info you requested, this guy has been around quite awhile and the information is very good: . Just proceed *carefully*! Cheers.

just remember that disabling services can kill functionality that you might not foresee needing at the moment. been there, done that, a few times. windows can definitely be leaned up though. i'm with bluzkat. you should be able to kill any services by going to start > run > services.msc you can disable any onboard devices in the bios and you might want to look around in windows device manager. while you're there, go to view > show hidden devices.

Why not simply install DuX XP? 23 services total (IIRC) on my machine, and that's not-a-lot. You get the DuXP here

The program I was talking about for disabling services is actually registry scripts that have Every service listed as well as scripts that directly disable services. I only have 19 services running right now, but there are those services that load into service shells. I don't know about dux build. I know of some n lite builds that only take about 60 mb with internet 30 mb with minimal services. I still haven't found out how to diminish physical ram use though
