Hello How can I convert my DVDs into a MPEG-4 SP Format (.avi container) with max 15fps , QVGA(320x240), max 384kbps and MP3 Audio (max 128kbps) for the "iRiver u10" Multimedia-Player? Thanks for the help  Daniel
Hi and welcome to the Doom9 Forums! First things first: :readfaq: :search: :readguid: Standard issue question. This sorta thing gets asked all the time, and we always say: :readfaq: :search: :readguid: Usually it's to another resolution or involves IVTC, but the process is much the same: Decrypt audio and video files, DGIndex the video, AviSynth loads the audio, video, and does any pre-processing required, VirtualDub encodes, there's your output file. MP3 Audio codec: . It's the best out there, can be used in ACM which is useful with VirtualDub etc, and highly configurable. MPEG-4 SP video codec: for assured compatibility with SP, . Also , provided you set the profile level to SP@Lx You'll find gets mentioned an awful lot on these forums, because it's so damn useful. Your AviSynth script will involve a resize (read the manual), and possibly IVTC if you live in NTSC land (again, read the manual). Loading audio and video is also a no-brainer! ;) Use to change the frame-rate. It does a good job. You then set your codec settings within the limits you specify, remembering that with 3ivx, you don't enable MPEG quantization, as that'll enable ASP, which ain't supported by your player. The max bitrate you require, for 3ivx, is 46 KB/sec, actual max bitrate is 46.875 KB/sec. For any other codec, it's 384 Kbits/sec. Do "2-pass" encoding where possible, as this almost always increases quality. The downside is it takes twice as long, though I guess you ain't bothered that much. :) What's the PC you're planning to encode on? If it's not too good a beast, it could take as long as the DVD movie is.

OK First things first, "Inventive Software" needs to get his head out of his butt and stop waving useless flags and spouting links without giving an answer. I think Daniel had a very well put question and I happen to have the same one. I've looked around the forum and can't find any good answers, just hints that it might have to do with x264. At the moment I'm trying StaxRip but I kind of just set things as best I could and crossed my fingers. Its still encoding so I don't know how it will work out. Probably bad. Has anyone put together a guide for encoding for the iRiver u10? It would be really appreciated because as far as I can see there is absolutely no content for this player available on the web...
