Sws has the advantage, if you do not need it, you do not have to install it, but if you need it it is as tightly integrated as if it were part of the core (eehm.. almost)
I love these rantings where people admit that they have no knowledge about something but decide after 10 minutes of thinkful knowledgeness to get rid of it. and then complain. I love it.

Like almost everything, if you need it, it has value, If you don't need it, it doesn't. Don't need it? Don't use it. (I must admit I don't find any need/use/value for it) Unlike a lot of software Value add/bloat (depending on your point of view) that coders include to try to meet everyone's needs, you don't have to install it if doesn't provide any value to you. no need to get upset
You may want to File this under 'mistaken' ;) Sws s&m is the shnizzle, to suggest it isn't is proof of some condition you need to seek medical help for.
Settle down, chaps! I myself don't always have SWS extensions installed and in fact I quit using Mikestopsgoes' excellent ReaMenus, but only because it didn't suit my work habits. I suspect the OP will realise what he is missing if he sticks with reaper long enough to find out. And remember he is coming to Reaper from Ableton Live. If this is his only prior DAW experience, that learning curve is going to seem awful steep to start with, him coming from a DAW that is about as much of a maverick compared to cubase, logic, Po tools, etc as Reaper is, but in a totally different way. OP:Hang in there. It takes most people a while to figure out Reaper's strengths and to realise how stable it is compared to most other DAWs.
This is not fair for the talented, passionated and generous contributors of SWS extensions. It is not because you don't know and you don't need it that is has 'no value'. Please consider the humans working on the project every day :/ We are a community, and SWS is the most advanced project coming from it. You question may be more humble as 'how do you use SWS', 'do I need sws' or 'what is sws'...
