Humanize before or after vocals ?

An important thing for me is that knowing what I want where I are going and the intensities of phrasing regardless of what instrument vocal guitar bass synth whatever will lead me to a working mix. Only when these ideas come together will a song or tune really come to life. If you phrase well with an instrument you can slow down with others playing a fixed beat and catch up again making a tune alive it is all in the phrasing and feel of that phrasing. When everybody is going out of time in an uncontrolled fashion then usually a mix will turn to stink ... My .34529 cents worth Grinder

Heh heh, I think this is kind of a "which comes first, the chicken or the egg" situation. :) I do quite a bit of midi programming for other people and I really need to have a vocal to work with, even if it isn't the final vocal. Also if they are guitar players, keyboard players, or what ever, I need some idea of what they are going to play on the final version of the song. I don't think I've ever considered any take to be the final take of anything, whether it's a vocal, guitar, keyboard, etc., until the song is completed. However, I've often seen the original cuts end up being the final cuts on the song. Heh heh, you just never know. :)

There's no absolute truth, but I Think if I play or sing to really nice drums instead of a first draft drum programing, I would get more 'feeling' in my playing/singing.

Funny thing that over tiredness thing Sometimes it is just so athletic when you push yourself so hard you thing the world is going to collapse and then you are there! Takes it's toll though. Grinder
