Probably a dumb question...but I've just started with midi in Reaper...anyway, I created a pattern using the virtual keyboard and then opened the piano roll to tweak it. The notes I'd created with the v keyboard behaved exactly as you'd expect - if you move them up and down the sound changed etc. But the piano roll keyboard produced no sound if I ran the mouse over it. Also any additional notes I created produced no sound, and if I moved them up and down - no sound either. Any idea why? I resolved it by deleting the item and starting again, but I was lucky I'd hardly done anything. I'd obviously done something stupid, so for next time I'd like to know what it was. Any ideas?

Indeed, there are some "strangenesses" that occur from time to time. I recorded a "Song" from my Fusion into Reaper - Five tracks, for tidying up - and having set various equivalent voices up from my Soundcard (Audigy2 ZS), I found that as I was working, those selections kept disappearing and reverting to "defaults" (I guess). This drove me mad until finally, I went into the Midi Editor/Event List View and set up the voice/bank changes at the top of the list, also adding (and setting) CC#7 (Volume). Its worth checking the filter for CCs further down the track, in case there are any unwanted entries . . . . . sudden unexplained drop in volume etc You need to be strict about midi channels here too - its easy to overlook. I tend to keep it unconfusing (Track 1 = Midi Channel 1, Track 2 = Midi Channel 2 etc) That done, I've not had any problems parametric

Hi parametric, there's some settings you'll want to uncheck if you haven't already in Preferences>Audio>MIDI Devices. Make sure Reset CC is unchecked unless you want the CCs resetting to some setting, usually "0" I believe. :)
