Hi, I'm trying to make a divx from a small dvd file (a videoclip of an a REM dvd) When using the divx4 guide with Gordian Knot I noticed that in the '0.20 bits/pixel*frame' part I never get decent values with small clips Also the percentage that is mentioned there shows a red value. Whys is that always the case with small files and how can I get the correct values in there? Greetings, Bhodi

One situation you will run into while using gnot with small files is that you probably have the cd size set to 1 cd at 700mb? This tells gnot that you want to put a 5 min video on a single cd. This will cause off the wall numbers for the bitrate and for any compression check you do. Simply set the filesize manually or set the bitrate manually to correct this. You can type directly into these blocks (people tend to forget this). Mac

Ah, thnx. That's the problem I think. Is there a rule for quality on how big you have to set the filesize when given a size of a certain DVD file? Bhodi

Well there can be a few different factors when deciding this. How many videos do you want on a single cd? How long are each? (See what I'm getting at). What I usually do is enter around 1000 for bitrate and see how big the resulting file is calculated at. Then decide if I want it to be bigger or smaller. It will also depend on what type and quality of audio you are using, mp3, aac, etc. Mac
