hi,my t4 is making a knocking noise when changing gear(more so in the first 3 gears, and sometimes when coming on and off the throttle, ive just had the large engine mount next to the cambelt cover replaced, and the front gearbox mount on the cradle as this was broken, but the noise still remains, any ideas on what it could be,driveshaft, clutch, ive heard of gearchange bushes causing knocking noises,or even the box itself, other than this the car seems in very good health, any advice is appreciated
hi dandle, changing the other mounts was an option i considered but i'm not convinced it's them at fault,i believe one is under the airbox is that the best way to access it?and the rear one on the cradle as ive already replaced the front one,i'll try and have a look when i get chance,i don't think that is the cause of the noise though, though i'd like to be proved wrong
It could be one of the strut top mounts or even an ARB bush causing the noise as well. If the other mounts were bad on the engine/gearbox its likely the two remaining ones won't be in good condition though and i would be inclined to change them first.
the front gearbox mount the rubber had actually come away and the large one next to the cambelt cover was starting to crack, you may well be right about the other mounts as i do have my suspicions,i need to have the car looked at properly,it gets a bit expensive if you just try to eliminate by just replacing parts
as dandle suggested in an earlier post the remaining engine mounts are probabely going weak as well and there does still seem to be too much movement with the engine and gearbox when changing gear etc, just out of intrest how much are the strut top mounts and what are they like to fit?the clunking noise sounds very low down in the car maybe arb bushes but defineing where a noise is coming from isnt always easy, its driving me up the wall, the only other thing is the water leak in the boot which has several causes, one dry day i may get chance to deal with it!
