People keep raving about ReaFIR and how nice the top end sounds. I can't for the life of me figure out how to use this thing. It doesn't even operate like an EQ. Where are the instructions on how to use all the built in plug-ins. Many of them are completely new FX ideas to me and I have been working professionally in the industry for a few decades. Thanks
jake. the idea with reafir is you can configure the eq any old way you want. its open ended. just clik n set your eq points. you can draw in the eq anyway you want. for example you could set up 31 eq points or ten or whatever. lets say for example you want to cut 2k to 6k. just set the two points n drag down with mouse to suit. it might be easier if you gave examples of what you want to do. ps...if you rightclik over an eq point you can set precisely the frequency. a little dialogue pops up. another example. lets say you want crud under 30 hz removed on a trak . set a point at 0hz n 30 hz. then drag the 0hz point down. merry xmas.
hi, there's some info about reafir in the manual (noise reduction with reafir) and in the wiki here : here's the general wicki link for the Reaper Effects

A couple folks said they like the ReaFIR's top end when boosting. I'll be the first to admit that I am new to Reaper and am still trying to learn and figure out what the best EQ's are. LOSER - what EQ do you think is great and worth raving about? Also, what is spectral FFT? I am not familiar with that term at all. Please inform me in your words. Thanks so much!

ReEQ o.5 (just hit the VST button in the built in effects in Reaper) is a great one to start with for doing anything you want to do with EQ quickly but Shwa and Stillwell have created some fantastic special purpose EQ plug ins for radical sounding and classic sounding stuff. They are at: Otherwise search this forum for some fantastic discussions maybe a year or two ago on EQ. You will find reviews and reports on many types of EQ setups as well as discussions about how they are used. The latter is probably the most valuable part. I am sure there have been many discussions about colouration as well as commercial free and native Reaper EQ.
i really like the functionality of reaeq. to me, it's perfect in that sense. i rarely use reafir at all. i tried stillwell's vibe eq recently. that thing is pretty swank. i need some monies to buy that thing. i accept all donations regardless of personal music taste and sexual orientation.

How does the 1973 EQ built into reaper work for you folks? Does it have a really nice top end when boosting do you find compared to any of the other eq's built into reaper??
1973 sounds good me, but I'm still learning about the subtleties of various types of EQ VSTs. I know that Henge produces great sounding tracks and he rates 1973. See link below (post #17) btw. Is 1973 included in Reaper now? I purchased mine from Stillwell's site. Pete
